Roundglass and Punjab FC’s vision of nurturing football talent from the grassroots to the highest level has received a major boost, with six of its players earning national team call-ups across different age categories.
At the senior level, defenders Nikhil Prabhu and Muhammed Uvais have been named in the India squad for the CAFA Nations Cup 2025. For Nikhil, the selection marks a steady rise from his beginnings in Gujarat to the top tier of Indian football, while Uvais’ consistent performances at the heart of Punjab’s defence have earned him a maiden call-up.
Reacting to his selection, Uvais said, “It’s surreal to be called up to the national camp. I think my performances with Punjab FC played a big role. I gave my best there, and I’m glad it helped me earn this opportunity.”
The club’s youth program also delivered notable success, with striker Sameer named in the India U17 squad for both the SAFF U17 Championship and the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Known for his pace and attacking flair, his selection is being hailed as a validation of Punjab FC’s grassroots development model.
Punjab’s presence extends to the India U23 squad for the upcoming friendly against Iraq, with Muhammad Suhail, Pramveer Singh and Manglenthang Kipgen all included. Suhail, an energetic forward from Kerala, has been a standout in youth competitions, while defender Pramveer, who became the youngest starter in Indian Super League history last year, continues his rapid ascent. Midfielder Kipgen, celebrated for his versatility and work ethic, has also been rewarded with a place in the squad.
Head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis expressed pride in the selections, saying: “We are extremely proud of Nikhil, Uvais, Sameer, Suhail, Pramveer, and Kipgen for earning these well-deserved call-ups. Every selection is a reflection of their hard work, discipline, and dedication, as well as the club’s philosophy of investing in youth. Their journeys inspire our entire team and prove that Punjab FC’s pathway from grassroots to the national stage is stronger than ever.”
The six call-ups underscore Punjab FC’s growing reputation as a talent hub, with Roundglass’ long-term investment in youth pathways translating into national recognition.
As the domestic season continues, the sight of Punjab FC players donning the India jersey is set to inspire the next generation of footballers in the academy. From local training grounds to the international stage, the Shers’ roar is being heard louder than ever.
