Scotland opener George Munsey has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s seven-wicket loss to Nepal in a Group D clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the International Cricket Council, “Munsey was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
One demerit point has been added to Munsey’s disciplinary record, marking his first offence in a 24-month period.
The incident occurred at the end of the 10th over of Scotland’s innings when Munsey, after being dismissed, threw his helmet onto the advertising boards while walking back to the dressing room.
“Munsey admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
“On-field umpires K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan and Alex Wharf, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere levelled the charge,” the statement added.
Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and can attract a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
In the ongoing tournament, Munsey has scored 134 runs across four innings. He managed 19 against the West Indies before bouncing back with a fluent 84 versus Nepal. However, he failed to maintain that momentum, registering scores of 4 and 27 in his subsequent outings.
Scotland’s campaign ended in disappointment, with the team securing just one win from four group-stage matches. They finished third in Group C, ahead of the bottom-placed side on net run rate but short of qualification for the next round.
