The winning team, Sona Koyo, captained by Sanjay Kapur, lifts the prestigious trophy for the Sir Pratap Singh Polo Cup.

Sanjay Kapoor-led Sona Koyo won the Sir Pratap Singh Cup 2018 on Monday. In the final round, Sona Koyo team scored the golden goal to defeat La Pegasus, captained by Samir Suhag.

The tournament presented by Hotel Taj Mahal New Delhi, Taj Palace New Delhi and Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, saw a number of polo enthusiasts and eminent guests from the city in attendance.

Among those present were Kalyani Saha, Priya Sachdev, Naveen Jindal, Jean Claude Kugener, Ambassador of Luxembourg in India.

The final game of the Sir Pratap Singh Cup 2018 tournament was also witnessed by Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat and the Quartermaster General Lt. Gen Ashok Ambre. The ceremonial arrival of the Chief was followed by an uplifting display by the 17th Sikh Li military band.

This year marks the Centenary Year of The Battle of Haifa 1918-2018. The Jodhpur Lancers, raised by Lt. Gen. Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh (born on 22nd October 1845 into the royal family of Marwar-Jodhpur), had their finest hour at the Battle of Haifa on 23 September 1918. The victory is regarded by many as “the last great cavalry charge of the modern era”.

Maharaja Gajsingh II of Marwar-Jodhpur was also present during the match.
