Vasco, 15 Feb: An exciting contest is on the cards between the Salgaocar FC and Mohun Bagan at the I-league match to be played at Tilak Stadium here tomorrow. Salgaocar started off the I-League well and were even leading the tally of the first leg, but lost their way after striker Claude Gnakpa exited.
The team is looking for a turnaround as they are relegated to fifth position with 18 points from 14 matches.
But now that they have recruited Dudu Omagbemi, who took sporting Clube de Goa to great heights, Salgaocar are now looking to regain the lost ground and move to the top. Salgaoacar coach Derick Pereira is confident that his team will do well now and Dudu, along with Daryl Duffy, will pose the right challenge for the rival defence.
“We havebeen practicing hard during the winter break and the team has jelled well. It is ready to take the challenge of Bagan who will come hard on us as they too need win to move up the ladder,” stated Pereira.
On the other hand, Bagan, who seem lacking in cohesion, is depending too muchon their star striker Odafa Okalie to win matches. Okalie has missed many matches in the first leg due to injury to place themselves to 6th place with 18 points from 15 matches.
Bagan, who has failed to win a single tournament this season, are focusing on the I-League and their coach Karim Bencherifa is looking for victory tomorrow to lift confidence of the team.
“We have beaten them in the first leg and hope to win tomorrow. It is going to be a tough contest with Salgaocar having the home advantage, but we are ready for the challenge,” said Bencherifa.
