The ‘god of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar himself didn’t shy to acknowledge the contribution of his childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar, whom the master blaster credits the most for his success.

“#HappyGuruPurnima to Achrekar Sir and other coaches who have helped me throughout my career. Your contributions have been priceless!” Sachin said on Twitter on Sunday.

Former Mumbai cricket team selector, Achrekar was bestowed with the Dronacharya Award in 1990 for his services as a coach. In 2010, Achrekar received Padma Shri from the then Indian President Pratibha Patil.

Besides Sachin, Vinod Kambli and Ajit Agarkar were other renowned disciples of Achrekar, who is now 85-year-old.

On Guru Purnima, Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also expressed gratitude to those who taught him one thing or the other in life. “Family, friends, people…all of them teach you something if you're willing to learn. Thank you to everyone who taught me. #GuruPurnima,” Harbhajan tweeted.

Middle-order batsman Suresh Raina too joined the celebration, sharing some old photographs of his early cricketing days on Twitter. “#HappyGuruPurnima!! Grateful to all who have been my aspiration and inspiration,” Raina said.
