India’s limited over openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma on Saturday surpassed a record set by Team India’s legendary duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. In the second One Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand, Dhawan and Rohit put up a yet another hundred runs stand as they went past Sehwag and Tendulkar’s record. Tendulkar and Sehwag had 13 hundred-run stands registered on their name, the highest by Indians.
It was also Rohit and Dhawan’s 14th hundred-run stand in ODIs. On Saturday, Rohit and Dhawan snitched a 154-run stand for Team India giving them a flying start and in the process became India’s most successful opening duo.
Rohit Sharma scored a 96-ball 87 and Dhawan notched up a quickfire 67-ball 66 as Team India put up a mammoth total of 324 runs for the loss of four wickets in front of Blackcaps.
Earlier on Saturday, Virat Kohli invited Kane Williamson-led New Zealand to field first after winning the toss in Mount Maunganui.
While Team India fielded the same playing XI as the series opener, New Zealand made a couple of changes in their playing eleven as Ish Sodhi and Colin de Grandhomme replace Michael Santner and Tim Southee, respectively.
Currently, Virat Kohli’s side has taken a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing five-match ODI series.
