Opening the batting for the first time in Test matches, Rohit Sharma has now become only the second Indian opener to have scored hundreds in both the innings of a Test match. Rohit scored a century on Day 4 of the ongoing first Test match between India and South Africa and made a total of 127 runs. He had made 176 runs in the first innings.

Former Indian legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar is the other Indian opener to have scored two hundreds in a Test match who had achieved the feat 41 years ago.

Overall, the Mumbaikar is only the sixth Indian batsman to have achieved the feat of scoring hundreds in both the innings of a Test match. He thus joins an elite list of batsmen which include Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane.

Rohit was drafted in as an opener for the South Africa test series in place of out of form KL Rahul. Rohit is now also the first batsman in the history of the game to hit twin hundreds in first match as an opener.
