Swiss tennis star Roger Federer registered a convincing straight-sets win over German opponent Peter Gojowczyk in his landmark’s 1500th career match in the opening round of the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel.

Federer produced a commanding performance as he went past his opponent 6-2, 6-1 in a match that lasted 53 minutes. This was his 21st consecutive win at the Swiss Indoors Basel.

“I thought the match was good. I felt like I had a good spring in my step and was quick onto the ball. It didn’t take me long to get used to the conditions. That was positive,” the official website of the ATP Tour quoted Federer as saying.

“(I) knew of the danger of playing Peter, especially indoors. He had a great couple of qualifying matches, so I knew he’d be tough, especially (because) he beat Karlovic easy, who serves great,” he added.

World number 3, Federer, is searching for his 10th Basel title and 103rd overall. He will be up against either Radu Albot or Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in his next match.
