India’s hockey team conceded a goal just three seconds before a hooter as Germany on Monday took away the game from India by winning the match by 2-1 at the end.

Both the teams were tied at 1-1 till the end of fourth quarter but Germany holding their nerves scored just before the final whistle. 

At the end of Quarter 1, both the teams were looking to get on the board. But, in the second quarter Germany’s Niklas Wellen scored the first goal of the match in 18th minute.

India came back strongly after going 1-0 down against the Olympic champions but Nikkin Thimmaiah and Akashdeep Singh missed chances to double the score line. But Rupinder Pal Singh, who scored twice in the previous match scored an equaliser in the 23rd minute through a thunderous penalty corner.

The third quarter went goal less and the fourth would have been the same. But, in the 60th minute, Christopher Ruhr scored for Germany to win the game for his team.

Earlier, India had beaten Ireland in the first match by 3-2.

Sreejesh’s men will play their next match on Tuesday versus Argentina.
