Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui on Friday stressed that using the Video Assistant Referee technology will ultimately enable fewer mistakes in football.

Regarding the recent controversy over a Cristiano Ronaldo red card, Lopetegui said he did not see the action in which the Portuguese superstar was sent off during Wednesday’s Valencia-Juventus UEFA Champions League clash which the Juve “Girlfriend of Italy” defeated the Valencia “Bats” 2-0, reports Efe.

“I did not see the play very well because I could not watch the match, but everyone told me it was not (worth) an expulsion. Errors sometimes occur and the VAR obviously always helps to have fewer mistakes,” Lopetegui said in a press conference.

Ronaldo, a former Real Madrid player and current Juve forward, was sent off with a direct red card for apparently raking his fingers on Jeison Murillo’s head as Valencia’s Columbian defender squatted on the ground following a collision with the famed Portugal striker in the 29th minute of the match held at the Bat’s home pitch, Mestalla stadium in Valencia.

“In the VAR (room) they see the images with much more tranquility through a video, which makes it easier not to make mistakes,” Real Madrid’s coach added.
