Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“They say every ending has a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” he said on X.
Ashwin also thanked IPL franchisees, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for giving him the opportunities.
“Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now,” he said.
In Indian Premier League (IPL), Ashwin has played 220 matches, scoring 833 runs with a highest of 50 and a batting strike rate of 118.16.
He has taken 187 wickets at an economy rate of 7.2 across 217 innings. His best bowling in the IPL is 4/34.
Ashwin had retired from all international formats on December 18, 2024.
