Head coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket team Ravi Shastri has asked people to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives, namely the ‘Fit India Movement’ and the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.’

Shastri took to his social media account to share a video in which he requested people to pick waste and dispose it off properly to maintain cleanliness.

“On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, join me for a unique combination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative – the Fit India movement and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” Shastri said in the video streamed from the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, where India are slated to play South Africa in the first Test match.

“I request you all to join the 2-km run on October 2 and while running keep picking the litter, Jai Hind,” the 57-year-old added.

The Men in Blue will look to start the domestic test series against South Africa on a high when they lock horns in the first test beginning on 2 October. Both the teams are contesting in a three-match test series beginning West Indies.

The Virat Kohli led Indian side would be rearing to go after they strengthened their position at the top of the points tally with a 2-0 win over West Indies at their own backyard.

India go into this series as favourites given that they have not lost a series at their home soil since 2013. In fact, India have won each of their last 10 Test series at home- the joint highest by any team on their home soil.
