The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Tuesday picked Ravi Shastri as India's head coach but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) put the decision on hold, saying it's not final yet.

"No decision has been made on the appointment of the new coach. The CAC is still deliberating over it," the BCCI said as quoted by PTI.

The former team director of Indian cricket team, Shastri, who suffered a close defeat to Anil Kumble last time, seems ready to fill the shoes of the leg-spin legend as the CAC picked him for the head coach’s job.

The CAC on Monday interviewed all the candidates but put their decision on hold and asked Indian captain Virat Kohli for his suggestion before choosing the man for the prestigious job.

The 55-year-old, who has good relations with Kohli and senior cricketers in the current squad, is expected to coach Team India till 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Under Shastri’s guidance from August 2014 to June 2016 as team director, then a coachless India enjoyed a gala time inside the dressing room.

Shastri guided India to the semi-finals of the World Cup and World T20 in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Thanks to Shastri, MS Dhoni-led limited-over team defeated England and Australia in an away series, while Kohli-captained Test team registered series wins against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had received as many as 10 CVs for the coach’s job application. Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma (Oman national team coach), Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari (engineer with no cricketing background) were the applicants for the highly prestigious job.

However, it was a battle between Shastri and Sehwag as these were the hot-picks for the job.

The CAC, comprising of former iconic Indian cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman chose experienced Shastri over newbie Sehwag.

As far as coaching is concerned, former India opener Sehwag is yet to prove himself as his coaching tenure with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t displayed much magical results with the Punjab T20 franchise.
