Rahul Soreng, son of Pulwama martyr Vijay Soreng, has earned a spot in Haryana’s Under-19 cricket team. Rahul, who has been studying at the Sehwag International School since 2019, received high praise from legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag following his selection.
Rahul joined the Sehwag International School in 2019 after Sehwag initiated a program offering free education and boarding facilities to children of martyrs in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack.
“Congratulations to Rahul Soreng on being selected in the Haryana Under-19 team. Since his brave father attained martyrdom in Pulwama, it has been my privilege to support Rahul, and I am extremely proud of his journey,” Sehwag posted on social media.
Last December, Rahul was selected for Haryana’s Under-16 team in the prestigious Vijay Merchant Trophy, a significant milestone in his budding cricket career. He has also represented Haryana in the Under-14 category.
“I feel so privileged that Rahul Soreng, son of Pulwama martyr Shaheed Vijay Soreng ji, who joined Sehwag International School in 2019 and has been staying with us for the last five years, has been selected in the Haryana Under-16 team for the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Few things give more joy. Thank you to our great soldiers,” Sehwag had shared on Instagram.
Earlier this year, Rahul, along with two other promising cricketers — Aditya Pandey and Shivam Anand — was selected to represent the Jhajjar District Under-19 team in an inter-district match against Karnal.
Previously, Sehwag had shared a photograph of children from the families of soldiers martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, training at the Sehwag International School.
