Indian golf is set for a major shift with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) announcing the launch of 72 The League, the country’s first exclusive national professional golf league, created in partnership with Game of Life Sports (GOLS).

Positioned as India’s only professional golf league, 72 The League is supported by industry veterans, seasoned investors and prominent sports enthusiasts. Several iconic figures from Indian golf will mentor participating teams, adding both expertise and stature to the competition.

The inaugural season will feature city-based franchises made up of 10 professional golfers each, chosen through a transparent player auction slated for January. Top names from the PGTI circuit are expected to participate, making it one of the most expansive competitive platforms in the history of Indian golf.

The league is scheduled to begin on February 21 with the final to be held on March 6. The matches will be played across three premier golf venues in the Delhi NCR region — Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens and Qutab Golf Course.

Speaking on the launch, India’s first World Cup-winning cricket captain Kapil Dev, who now serves as president of PGTI, said, “With the launch of 72 The League, PGTI is turning over a new leaf for the growth of golf in India. For the first time, we have a structured, team-based national league sanctioned by PGTI that creates new opportunities for players.”

“This is as exciting for all of us as it is for the players, who are set to experience a thrilling new format. We would also like to welcome Game of Life Sports as our partners for this initiative and firmly believe that 72 The League is a powerful step forward for Indian golf,” he added.

72 The League will comprise a faster, high-impact play format ideal for television and digital audiences. Fans can look forward to Pro-Am events, immersive fan zones, live entertainment, behind-the-scenes digital content and premium broadcast production that will bring the sport closer to viewers than ever before.
