Amid speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement from International Cricket, former India cricketer Anil Kumble has stated that the Indian selectors initially need to have a conversation about Dhoni ’s future with the team and then may be arrange for a farewell for the veteran cricketer.

Anil Kumble, who was captain of the Indian test team prior to Dhoni in 2008, also stated that Delhi lad Rishabh Pant has the ability within him to be a regular at least at the Test Match level but needs to be more consistent.

“I’m not really sure. I think Pant has certainly made a lot of claims as a keeper-batsman, especially in the T20 format. So, it’s important to have a conversation and you need to have a proper send-off, he certainly deserves that,” Anil Kumble told CricketNext when asked whether he would like to see Dhoni continue in international cricket.

Anil Kumble added that if Dhoni is indeed being considered for the World T20 scheduled in Australia next year, he would have to play each and every match from now.

“For the team’s sake, the selectors need to sit down and have a discussion around what the plans are because it’s important that things be communicated. If the selectors believe that Dhoni is in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, then I think he should be playing every game.

“If he’s not, then it’s important that they have a discussion around how they need to make this happen. I think they need to do that in the next couple of months,” Kumble added.
