Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been under a lot of fire of late as cricket experts and fans are criticising him for his poor performance in the second and last One Day International (ODI) match of the recently concluded series in England. Speculations about MS Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket have also been doing the rounds on the internet for quite some time now.

India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has however backed the 37-year-old wicket-keeper batsman. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Sachin Tendulkar said MS Dhoni was the best person to decide on his future, adding that he would be the first to admit that his performance in England was not up to mark.

“I know people are talking about a lot of things… I have read Mr Gavaskar’s statement and seen Sourav’s remark that Dhoni needs to do more. But if you speak to MS himself, he would also say that it has not been up to his expectations,” Tendulkar said, adding, “The player only has to take the call. A player of his calibre, who has been around for a long time, knows what is expected of him. And where he stands. So, I will leave the decision to him.”

Earlier, veteran cricketer Sourav Ganguly also backed MS Dhoni and said he had the ability to bounce back. “I am sure he will get back to scoring runs. Whatever he does, it’s his decision,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly had also said MS Dhoni needed to up his game if he was the team’s choice for the 2019 World Cup. “If Dhoni has got to play then he has got to get in a position where he keeps hitting. If it is 24-25 overs and he has got to build an innings, he is struggling at the moment,” he said.

“He may turn it around as he has been a great player for India but at the present, he is not turning it around enough and this has been going on for more than a year,” Ganguly had said.
