Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain who has lead team to victory in all the three major ICC tournaments — ICC World Cup 2011, ICC T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. Now, after passing the captaincy baton to Virat Kohli, he plays the role of mentor.

However, the year 2018 has not been MS Dhoni’s year as he has been struggling to get going with the bat. The 37-year-old wicket-keeper batsman’s last fifty came almost a year ago against Sri Lanka. MS Dhoni’s drop in form was the reason he was dropped from the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies and the upcoming T20I series against Australia. But according to MS Dhoni’s close friend and manager Arun Pandey, the keeper-batsman from Ranchi is not ready to give up on his World Cup dream.

“It’s been a long cherished dream of Dhoni – since he gave up the captaincy in white ball cricket – to play in the World Cup next year where he would be more as a mentor to the team. His idea was to give Kohli time to develop in this role and there is still no change in his thinking,” Pandey was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

In 2014, MS Dhoni gave up his captaincy in the longest format of the game during India’s tour to Australia. Two years later, Virat Kohli succeeded him as the skipper in all formats of the game.
