Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted by the Alipore Court in a cheque bounce case filed by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, in a significant development in the long-running legal dispute between the two.

The case was linked to allegations made by Jahan in 2018, where she claimed that a cheque worth Rs 1 lakh issued by Shami towards household expenses had bounced after being deposited in a bank. She later approached the court and filed a case against the India pacer.

On Wednesday, the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Alipore cleared Shami of all charges in the matter.

Confirming the verdict, Shami’s advocate Salim Rahman told IANS, “Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted in the four-year-old case which was filed by his wife.”

Shami, who appeared in court during the hearing, said he had faith in the legal process and maintained that he had fulfilled all his responsibilities.

“I have paid every rupee that I was required to pay. Whether on or off the field, I always try to handle every situation to the best of my ability,” he said after the verdict.

While the cheque bounce case has now been decided in Shami’s favour, the broader legal battle between the couple is still ongoing. Hasin Jahan had earlier filed multiple complaints against Shami and his family members, and the dispute over maintenance and alimony continues in court.

Under directions from the Calcutta High Court, Shami currently pays Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh towards the care and upbringing of their daughter.

Jahan later approached the Supreme Court, arguing that the amount was insufficient to cover household expenses. During the hearing, the apex court questioned whether Rs 4 lakh per month was inadequate for the maintenance of a mother and daughter and issued notices to both Shami and the West Bengal government.

Shami is currently representing Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026 while continuing to deal with the ongoing legal proceedings off the field.
