The pair of Moises Henriques (62*) and Travis Head (48*) established an unbeaten 109-run partnership stand as Australia defeated India by eight wickets to level the three-match T2oI series 1-1.

Earlier, the openers David Warner (2) and Aaron Finch (8) were dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Jason Behrendorff (4/21) led Australia’s bowling attack and spinner Adam Zampa supported him with two dismissals as Australia wrapped India 118 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Pacers Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis joined the party after they dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) and Hardik Pandya (25) respectively.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith, who is out of action due to injury, heaped praise on Behrendorff for his super spell. “Great spell of bowling by @JDorff5 left arm quicks that swing the ball back into the right handed batters are invaluable!”

Zampa took his second wicket in shape of Kedar Jadhav (27), who was bowled by the spinner’s top-spin in the 12th over.

Following the collapse of India’s top order, wicketkeeper batsman MS Dhoni too lost his wicket cheaply for 13 runs. The wounded hosts reached 61/5 in first ten over.

Spinner Adam Zampa trapped the big fish in the tenth over.

Behrendorff extended his tally to four after dismissing all leading men in the Indian side — Rohit, Kohli, Manish Pandey (6) and Shikhar Dhawan (2) —  in his four-over spell.

India were 43/4 in 7 overs with Behrendorff (4/21) ruling the day in Guwahati.

Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff took the much valued wickets in  fourth and sixth wicket in the opening over. India were seen struggling at 8/2 after the first over.

“Looks a good wicket, maybe a little bit soft underneath,” Warner said after winning the toss.

For Australia, Marcus Stoinis made a cut in the playing eleven, replacing Dan Christian.

India lead the three-match T20I series as they defeated Australia by nine wickets (D/L method) in a rain-affected match in Ranchi.

“Now we need to make sure we put up good runs on the board. We need to keep the winning momentum going. It’s very difficult to maintain that momentum, very easy to lose it,” Virat Kohli, who introduced no change in the playing eleven, said.

The Indian captain added: “We are very hungry to keep performing every game. We don’t want to be complacent. The stadium is beautiful. It’s a packed house. We could barely get into the ground. There were so many people who were so excited. We will try and entertain them as much as possible.”
