The Indian women cricket team is set to play five-match T20I and three-match One Day International series in South Africa.

While Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead the women-in-blue for T20I series, Mithali Raj has been appointed the skipper of the ODI team.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues is set to make her debut in international cricket during India’s South Africa tour. Jemimah’s excitement ahead of the series was visible during the media interaction on Tuesday.

Everyone was focused on the teen sensation who had created a buzz in the cricket world with her sensational double hundred in the Under-19 domestic tournament for Mumbai in 2017.

While talking to media after the team’s practice session at the MCA Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai, Rodrigues said, “Yes of course, I am a bit nervous being part of the Indian team. I am really looking forward to the SA tour. It’s my first trip with the Indian team.”

“Everyone has supported me really well and they have not made me feel like I am a new girl or the youngest one in the team. They have gelled up well with me. I am a bit nervous, but I am excited too,” Jemimah Rodrigues.

Indian skipper Mithali Raj was all praises for the young protégé during the pre-departure press conference.

While describing her first meeting with the India skipper, who is also the highest ODI run-getter in women’s cricket, Jemimah said she was a bit nervous.

“The first time I got very nervous. Mithali Raj is my idol in Indian cricket and seeing them batting and working so hard in the nets is an inspiration for me. The commitment and effort they put in even at their age is amazing. So, I am really glad and looking forward to many more experiences with them,” she said.

Meanwhile, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar had met women’s cricket team on Monday ahead of their South Africa series. The newbie in the women’s team revealed that she was in awe of the master blaster.

“Meeting Sachin sir was an awesome moment for each one of us. He’s one of the best examples of a good batsman, but more than that a humble human being. He spoke to each one of us, gave us many fine tips, and made us feel comfortable and answered our questions. He gave us a lot of confidence before traveling to South Africa. Meeting him was a blessing for us,” she said.

When Jemimah Rodrigues was asked whether she would be able to make it in playing eleven she said, “Whenever I get a chance, I will be happy to play there, perform and do well for the team.”
