Ahead of India’s forthcoming test series against South Africa, star Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series owing to an injury on Tuesday. Umesh Yadav will replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad.

“Team India fast bowler Mr. Jasprit Bumrah has sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back and has been ruled out of the upcoming PayTm Freedom Series for Gandhi-Mandela Trophy against South Africa,” The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

Jasprit Bumrah will now have to undergo a rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the statement further revealed.

“The injury was detected during a routine radiological screening. He will now undergo rehabilitation at NCA and will be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” it added.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah was expected to be the spearhead of the pace attack and has built his reputation as India’s most bankable bowler. The 25-year-old speedster recently picked up 13 wickets in two Tests during India’s tour of West Indies which included a hat-trick.

As far as Umesh Yadav is concerned, this will be a vital opportunity for him to do impress the selectors since he was not selected initially in the squad. Yadav last played a Test for India at Perth against Australia in 2018.

India play three Test matches against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, Pune and Ranchi.
