Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off a sensational chase to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets with seven balls to spare in Match 17 of IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Chasing a daunting target of 220, PBKS rode on three blistering half-centuries to finish at 223/4 in just 18.5 overs, registering one of the most commanding run-chases of the season.

Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with a composed yet aggressive unbeaten 69 off 33 balls, striking five fours and five sixes. He was well supported by Priyansh Arya, who set the tone with a breathtaking 57 off just 20 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh, who kept the momentum going with a fluent 51 off 25 deliveries.

The chase got off to a flying start as the openers stitched together a 93-run partnership, putting SRH under immediate pressure. Even after the breakthroughs, PBKS never lost control, with Iyer pacing the innings smartly before sealing the win alongside Shashank Singh (16* off 9).

For SRH, Shivang Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/33, briefly raising hopes of a comeback, but the target proved too steep to defend.

SRH’s explosive start goes in vain

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a formidable 219/6 after being put in to bat, courtesy of a blazing start from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.

The opening duo came out with aggressive intent, dismantling the PBKS bowling attack during the powerplay. Abhishek led the charge with a sensational 74 off 28 balls, bringing up his half-century in just 18 deliveries, while Head contributed 38 off 23 balls.

SRH raced to a staggering 105/0 in the powerplay, looking set for an even bigger total.

However, PBKS clawed their way back through Shashank Singh, who turned the game with a crucial double strike, dismissing both openers in quick succession and breaking a 120-run stand.

Ishan Kishan (27 off 13) and Heinrich Klaasen (39 off 33) steadied the innings in the middle overs, but SRH lost momentum towards the end, managing just 43 runs in the final five overs.

Shashank Singh was the standout bowler for Punjab, returning figures of 2/20, while Arshdeep Singh also picked up two wickets.

Despite their strong total, SRH were outplayed by a clinical PBKS batting performance in what turned out to be a high-scoring thriller.

Sunrisers Hyderabad 219/6 (20 overs) – Abhishek Sharma 74, Heinrich Klaasen 39, Travis Head 38; Shashank Singh 2/20, Arshdeep Singh 2/50
