Gujarat Titans held their nerve in a last-over thriller to defeat Punjab Kings by four wickets in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, with Washington Sundar sealing the win with a towering six off Marcus Stoinis with one ball to spare.

Chasing 164, GT finished at 167/6 in 19.5 overs, overcoming a late wobble thanks to Sundar’s unbeaten 40 off 23 balls. Earlier, Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with a composed 57, holding the chase together after an early setback.

GT did not have the ideal start, losing skipper Shubman Gill cheaply. However, Sudharsan and Jos Buttler steadied things with a fluent partnership, taking the side to 58/1 at the end of the powerplay. Buttler contributed a handy 26, while debutant Nishant Sindhu added a quick cameo to keep the momentum going.

Just when GT looked in control, Punjab Kings struck back through Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vyshak, triggering a mini-collapse in the middle overs. The equation tightened further in the death overs, leaving GT needing 12 runs from the final over.

The drama peaked in the closing moments. After a wicket and a single, Sundar found himself with three runs required off the last two deliveries. Showing remarkable composure, he launched Stoinis over deep backward square leg for a six, sealing a thrilling victory for Gujarat.

Earlier, GT’s bowlers had set up the contest with a disciplined effort to restrict Punjab Kings to 163/9. Mohammed Siraj struck twice in the opening over to put PBKS on the back foot, removing Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly.

The pressure was maintained by Kagiso Rabada, who dismissed Prabhsimran Singh, before Jason Holder took charge in the middle overs. Holder removed Nehal Wadhera and skipper Shreyas Iyer in quick succession as PBKS slipped to 47/5.

A spirited counterattack followed, led by Suryansh Shedge, who smashed 57 off just 29 balls. Along with Stoinis (40), he stitched together a crucial 79-run stand that revived Punjab’s innings and briefly shifted momentum.

However, GT hit back strongly at the death. Rabada broke the partnership by dismissing Shedge, before Holder returned to remove Stoinis and finish with impressive figures of 4/24. The lower order failed to capitalise despite a quick cameo from Marco Jansen, as PBKS were restricted to a below-par total.

In the end, GT’s all-round effort, sharp with the ball and composed under pressure in the chase, proved enough to edge out Punjab in a high-pressure finish.
