Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings is the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League so far having won three IPL titles in spite of not playing in two seasons. CSK won the IPL trophy after a poor start in the previous edition of IPL, which was its first after serving a two-year suspension from the league.
After winning the IPL title on their return, Chennai released just three players before the auctions and bought two.

The defending champions added the services of medium pacer Mohit Sharma for Rs 5 crore and uncapped batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs 20 lakh for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.
Before the auction, CSK had secured the services of Mitchell Santner, who missed the previous season due to injury, along with their skipper MS Dhoni, all-rounder Suresh Raina, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis among others.
