Veteran Indian opener Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday was appointed as the captain of Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.

Delhi Daredevils CEO Heman Dua took it to the micro-blogging site to announce the captain of his team.

Notably, Gambhir had led Shah Rukh Khan-owned team Kolkata Knight Riders in winning two IPL trophies. Gambhir was the skipper of KKR for seven years before getting snubbed in 2018.

After being appointed as the skipper Gambhir said, “I’m more excited than I have ever been.”

Earlier, after not getting retained by KKR, Gautam had gone under the hammer in the much-talked-about IPL auction on 27th January and was bought by DD.

The Delhi Daredevils was Gautam Gambhir’s first IPL franchise. After the auction, DD’s head coach Ricky Ponting had said that he will be captaining the team.

“We’ve had a few conversations with Gautam, who’d been looking to return to his first IPL franchise, and he’ll be captaining the DareDevils,” said Ponting, adding, “Indeed, we’re happy to have Gautam and he’ll deliver.”

“It’s hard to find fault with anything Gautam did at KKR. He’s won the IPL twice and brings with him a wealth of experience,” Ricky Ponting added.
