Decision Review System (DRS) is set make its debut in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League. According to a report in Indian Express, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given green signal to DRS for IPL 2018.

According to Indian Express, a BCCI official said, “The BCCI was keen to have DRS on board since quite some time but it was only this year we felt we should go ahead with it for the IPL. We have the best of all other systems in place, so why not DRS? Anyway we have been using it for India’s international matches for over a year and a half now.”

Notably, for many years, BCCI was not in the favour of DRS, claiming that it was not full proof. The first time when Indian board had allowed DRS was in 2016 during England’s tour to India. And now they are even ready to let the technology be introduced in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.

Till date, DRS was not used in India’s domestic matches. The Indian umpires are not very friendly with the technology and therefore the Indian cricket board had picked 10 domestic umpires for a session on DRS while keeping IPL in mind.

“Indian domestic cricket doesn’t use the DRS system till date. As local umpires are being hired for the IPL, the board had called us to be briefed about the system. We were told that the board will be using DRS in IPL and they wanted us to get used to the technology,” said one of the domestic umpires who attended the session.
