India’s young left-arm spinner N Sree Charani has been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for June after emerging as one of the biggest breakout stars of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees on Monday, with Charani joined by Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce and England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

Although India’s campaign ended in the group stage, Charani was one of the tournament’s standout performers, finishing as the leading wicket-taker.

The left-arm spinner claimed 14 wickets in six T20Is during June at an outstanding average of 11 and an economy rate of 6.69.

She struck at least twice in each of India’s five Group 1 matches, producing match-winning spells of 3/21 against Pakistan, 4/19 versus the Netherlands and 3/24 against South Africa.

Her consistent performances made her one of the revelations of the tournament despite India’s inability to progress beyond the group stage.

England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge also enjoyed a sensational month, scoring 287 runs in six T20Is at an average of 71.75 and a strike rate of 151.85.

She finished as the leading run-scorer at the Women’s T20 World Cup and became the first player to score more than 300 runs in a single edition of the tournament, ending with 302 runs. Her standout knocks included an unbeaten 105 against Sri Lanka, 65 versus the West Indies and a match-winning 89* against defending champions New Zealand.

Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce earned her nomination after starring with both bat and ball. She played a key role in Scotland’s home tri-series triumph over Bangladesh and the Netherlands before carrying that form into the World Cup.

Bryce amassed 178 runs at a strike rate of 140.15 while also claiming 11 wickets during June. She later led Scotland’s World Cup campaign, highlighted by a commanding 60 in the opening match against Ireland.
