Australian cricketer Pat Cummins has refused to buy India skipper Virat Kohli’s self-appraisal that he is no longer the one looking for confrontations. Pat Cummins also said the Australians would hold their ground in the face of any verbal barrage from Virat Kohli.

Speaking to the media at the pre-departure conference, Virat Kohli had claimed that he had realised he didn’t need to get into confrontations to get a feel of the contest. Kohli also said though India would not start any trouble his side would “give it back” to if the Aussies provoked them.

“I think I heard him say in the media the other day he won’t, but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t,” Cummins told Fairfax Media, before adding, “He’s so competitive, he really thrives on that.”

Pat Cummins added, “We’ll hold our ground, we’re going to be competitive and all those things. We wouldn’t treat him differently to any others. I think you’ll see a lot of passion from both sides but nothing super fiery like we saw against India a couple of years ago.”

Confident Indian side led by Virat Kohli will play a three-match T20I series Down Under followed by a four-match Test series and then three One Day Internationals.

The T20I series will start on November 21, while the Test series will begin on December 6. With the absence of former Aussie skipper Steve Smith and his deputy David Warner in the Australian squad, it is said to be India’s best opportunity to win a Test series in Down under.

“It might be something to talk about once we get the Test squad together, and talk about how we want to play and our plans for individual batsmen,” Cummins added.

“To be honest, I do what works best for me. It’s getting myself fired up or getting myself focused, it’s more getting the best out of myself than trying to put a batsman off or anything.”
