Riding on Shimron Hetmyer’s (106 runs off 78 balls) explosive batting, Jason Holder-led West Indies cricket team posted a mammoth total of 322 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the opening One Day International match of the five-match series on Sunday being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

After winning the toss, Virat Kohli invited West Indies to bat first and somehow managed to execute their plans as the Caribbean’s lost four wickets in 22 overs with 114 runs on board.

However, a quick-fire fifty from Kieran Powell (51 runs off 39 balls) and a brilliant century from Shimron Hetmyer took the match away from India as they rattled host team bowlers with their explosive batting. During his 106 runs innings, Hetmyer smashed six fours and six sixes.

Indian pacer Mohammad Shami was the most expensive bowler from India. Shami conceded 81 runs and took two wickets of his allotted 10 overs.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja once again brought India back into the game by removing Hetmyer in the 39th over. After Hetmyer’s departure, skipper Jason Holder took charge of Windies’ innings and scored 38 runs off 42 balls before gifting his wicket to Yuzvendra Chahal while trying to play a cheeky shot.

Indian bowlers took control of the match in the 44th over when the West Indies lost their 8th wicket for 278 runs. However, tailenders Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach put up an outstanding 44 run stand for the ninth wicket to take Windies to 322 runs.

From Indian camp, Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets and Ravindra Jadeja bagged two wickets. Young left-arm pacer K Khaleel Ahmed took one wicket while Umesh Yadav remained wicketless.
