South Africa have won the toss and have opted to bat against India in the opening One Day International match of the six-match series at Kingsmead in Durban on Thursday.

When Virat Kohli’s side will face Faf du Plessis and his boys for the first ODI, they will aim to start the series on winning note. The visitors will take confidence from their win over the South African team in the third Test match at Wanderers.

Talking about the pitches in South Africa, Virat Kohli doesn’t expect pitches to play much role in the limited over matches. “ODIs will bring batsmen more into the game. So it’s a good chance to make a statement and win our first ever series here,” Virat said.

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis had confirmed that Aiden Markram will replace injured AB de Villiers.

While talking about the first ODI, Du Plessis said, “It’s honestly what I felt yesterday after training for the first time. You could feel that mentally they were still a bit drained. And that’s the side effect of a really strong and powerful Test series which was a lot of pressure. But I assume once we get into the competition of the one-day mode again, mentally we’ll make that switch again.”

South Africa had won three-match Test series by 2-1.
