Joe Root invited Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team to bat first after winning the toss in the third Test match of the five-match series on Saturday.

The third match of the series is being played at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

After winning the toss, Joe Root said, “Nice covering of live grass, we’ve done well with the ball, and we’ll be looking to pick up quick wickets. Sam did well with the ball, but Stokes will be replacing him. Very difficult decision and Sam has done really well. If this week goes well, we will make history. I believe in a balanced attack, and Adil is important. He’s been crucial for us during the phases he has bowled for us. Yeah, it’s dangerous to look too far ahead, and we have to play five days of solid cricket, and continue the kind of performances we have put in over the last few weeks.”

Virat Kohli said, “We wanted to bat first. The surface looks really hard. Good grass cover. Good cricket wicket. Important to not worry in the first hour and be fresh, and to just go out there and express ourselves. Putting runs on the board on any wicket is important. We could have spoken before and not come for the toss at all (laughs). Bumrah’s back in for Kuldeep; Dhawan in for Murali Vijay; Pant in for Karthik. The grass cover is a big reason for Bumrah to come in. He bowls good areas, and the seamer-heavy attack is a very balanced one going into this game. We have to win this Test match to still stand a chance of winning, and as Joe said, it’s important to not look too far ahead. So we’re just looking to go out there are put our best foot forward.”
