South Africa speedster Dale Steyn has predicted the result of forthcoming four-match Test series between India and Australia starting on Thursday 6 in Adelaide.

While many former cricketers feel this is India’s best opportunity to win a Test series against the Australian team in their backyards, Steyn feels Australia will win the Test series despite the absence of former Aussie skipper Steve Smith and his deputy David Warner in the national team.

“I’d probably go with Australia, just in terms of history against India. The amount of touring they (India) have had this year, the guys might be a bit tired,” Dale Steyn was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

By “tired”, Steyn meant India’s gruelling season to South Africa and then England. Virat Kohli’s boys first lost three-match Test series in the rainbow nation by 1-2 and they were completely outplayed by the English team in the five-match Test series that they lost 1-4.

Steyn was referring to India’s failed 11 attempts to win a Test series against the Oz team in Australia when he said “history” was “against India”. India has won just five-matches out of the 44 they have played Down Under.

“Even in England, I put my money on England to beat India, but India pushed then. I thought that England’s bowling would be the thing that pipped India, but India’s bowling really surprised me and if they continue in that vein they could cause some trouble down here (in Australia),” Steyn added.

After the conclusion of Test series, India will play a three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia in January next year.
