India delivered a commanding performance at the Asia Cup 2026 Archery Stage I in Bangkok, finishing with 10 medals, including two gold, four silver and four bronze, with a dominant showing in compound events.
The highlight of the campaign came in the men’s individual compound event, where India completed a clean podium sweep. Uday Kamboj clinched gold after edging past Asian Games medallist Prathamesh Jawkar 145-144 in a thrilling all-Indian final, while Rajat Chauhan secured bronze with an identical 145-144 win over Thailand’s Peerawat Rattanapongkiat.
Uday staged an impressive comeback in the final, overturning a 57-59 deficit after the second end with a perfect 30 in the third to take control and seal the win.
India also struck gold in the women’s individual compound event, where Tejal Salve defeated Mariia Dimidiuk 144-135, dropping just six points across 15 arrows in a dominant display.
The success extended to team events as well. In the compound mixed team event – set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics – the Indian pair of Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan clinched gold with a 158-156 win over Malaysia, holding their nerve in the final end.
The women’s compound team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur and Tejal Salve settled for silver after a narrow 227-229 loss to Kazakhstan, with a costly third end proving decisive.
In recurve events, India came close to more gold medals but had to settle for silver finishes. The men’s recurve team of Devaang Gupta, Sukhchain Singh and Juyel Sarkar lost a closely fought final to Kazakhstan 5-4 in a shoot-off. After both teams were tied at 4-4, Kazakhstan shot a perfect 30 in the tie-breaker, while India managed three 9s to fall short.
In the women’s individual recurve final, Ridhi Phor finished with silver after losing to Mongolia’s Oyun-Erdene Baasandorj, who maintained her edge to close out the match.
