India completed the biggest victory in their Test history as debutant spinner Manav Suthar starred in a crushing innings-and-300-run win over Afghanistan on the third day of the one-off Test at the New PCA Stadium on Monday.

After posting a mammoth 564/8 declared in their first innings, India bundled Afghanistan out for 152 before lunch and enforced the follow-on. In the second innings, visitors collapsed for 112 as the hosts wrapped up the contest inside three days.

The comprehensive triumph was built on India’s dominance across all departments. Centuries from KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill, coupled with valuable contributions from Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar, laid the platform before the bowlers completed the job in emphatic fashion.

Making his Test debut, left-arm spinner Suthar emerged as the standout performer, claiming a six-wicket haul in Afghanistan’s first innings and finishing with seven wickets in the match to cap a memorable introduction to international cricket.

Opting to bat first, India piled up 564/8 declared thanks to centuries from Gill and Rahul, while Sudharsan and Pant narrowly missed out on three figures. Washington’s unbeaten half-century further frustrated Afghanistan as the hosts established complete control of the contest.

Afghanistan resumed Day 3 at 113/5 but failed to offer sustained resistance despite Rahmat Shah’s fighting 60. Suthar ran through the lower order to finish with outstanding figures of 6/33, helping bowl out the visitors for 152 and securing a massive 412-run lead.

Asked to follow on, Afghanistan made a more promising start through Abdul Malik and Sediqullah Atal, who stitched together a 42-run opening partnership. Rahmanullah Gurbaz also chipped in with a quickfire 24 as the visitors attempted to extend the contest.

However, India’s bowlers soon regained control. Mohammed Siraj provided the breakthrough before Washington Sundar struck repeatedly to derail Afghanistan’s resistance.

Washington removed Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Atal in a decisive spell, reducing Afghanistan from a promising position to 98/5. Kuldeep Yadav then joined the party, while Suthar added another wicket as the tail folded quickly.

Afghanistan were eventually dismissed for 112, with injured Sharafuddin Ashraf unable to bat, sealing India’s biggest-ever Test victory by margin and underlining the gulf between the two sides.
