The Indian women’s team’s upcoming home series against Bangladesh, scheduled for December and comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is under the ICC Future Tours Programme, is now likely to be postponed amid escalating political tensions in Bangladesh.

While the BCCI had not yet announced dates or venues, uncertainty around the tour had existed even before the latest developments. The situation intensified on Monday when a tribunal court in Bangladesh sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. Her subsequent refuge in India has further strained relations, with Dhaka pushing for her return.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) received a communication from the BCCI on Tuesday indicating that the white-ball series would be rescheduled. Though the letter did not cite any specific reason, the ongoing political friction between the two nations is believed to have influenced the decision.

The series was expected to be India’s final assignment before the 2026 edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). It was also set to be the only bilateral engagement between their triumphant ODI World Cup campaign and the WPL. Kolkata and Cuttack were the proposed venues, with the ODIs marking the beginning of a new cycle in the Women’s ODI Championship for both teams.

Earlier this year, India’s men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, originally slated for August 2025, was also postponed to September 2026.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” according to a BCCI statement at the time.
