India made light work of New Zealand’s 153/9, racing to 155/2 to seal a victory in 10 overs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The chase was marked by controlled aggression by Ishan Kishan and calm partnerships by Abhishek Sharma and skipper Suryakumar Yadav, as India’s batters made full use of the platform set by the bowlers earlier in the evening, completing the target comfortably with wickets and overs to spare.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bowl first in the third T20I match.

New Zealand managed to post a modest 153/9 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks largely to a disciplined bowling effort from India. The Indian bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings, striking at regular intervals and never allowing New Zealand to build sustained partnerships, with tight lines and smart variations restricting the flow of runs.
Jasprit Bumrah led India’s bowling attack with a superb three-wicket haul, setting the tone with his accuracy and control.

He was well supported by Hardik Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi, who picked up two wickets apiece, while Harshit Rana chipped in with one as India’s disciplined effort restricted New Zealand to 153/9.

Glenn Phillips top-scored for New Zealand with a fighting 48 off 40 balls, anchoring the innings amid regular wickets. Mark Chapman provided brief support with a 32-run knock off 23 deliveries, but consistent strikes from the Indian bowlers prevented New Zealand from building any substantial partnerships as they finished on 153/9.

India sealed the series in 10 over posting 155/2

After restricting the visitors to 153, India’s bowling unit set the tone with a disciplined effort, and the focus quickly shifted to the batters. However, the chase began with an early jolt as opener Sanju Samson was dismissed for a first-ball duck, caught off Matt Henry.

Abhishek Sharma walked in to join Ishan Kishan, who immediately took control of the chase. Kishan lit up the first over with two sixes and a four, ensuring India stayed ahead of the required rate. Sharma, coming off a golden duck in the previous match, responded in emphatic fashion, launching a six and a four to find his rhythm early.

The duo unleashed a barrage of boundaries, striking fours and sixes at regular intervals to put New Zealand under severe pressure. Kishan’s aggressive stay came to an end in the fourth over, with India racing to 53/2.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav then joined Sharma and steadied the chase without easing the tempo. The pair continued to dominate, mixing clean hitting with smart rotation. Sharma brought up a sensational 14-ball half-century, becoming the second-fastest Indian to reach the milestone in T20Is.

India crossed 100 in the seventh over, with the momentum firmly in their favour. Suryakumar soon followed suit, completing his second successive half-century in just 25 balls, underlining his return to peak form.

With victory in sight, the duo finished the job in style, taking India to 155/2 in 10 overs, sealing a comprehensive win and clinching the series in dominant fashion.

New Zealand Inning end at 153/9

Harshit Rana set the tone early for India as Devon Conway and Tim Seifert opened the innings for New Zealand. The breakthrough came immediately, with Rana dismissing Conway in the first over, caught by Hardik Pandya. Rachin Ravindra walked in next and announced himself with a boundary, but his stay was brief as Ravi Bishnoi had him caught soon after, leaving New Zealand two down for just 13 runs.

Glenn Phillips counter-attacked on arrival, striking a four off his first delivery and continuing to find the boundary. However, India kept tightening the screws. Jasprit Bumrah made an instant impact in the sixth over, removing Seifert with his very first ball. Mark Chapman joined Phillips, but scoring remained difficult as Kuldeep Yadav conceded just three runs in the seventh over, followed by another economical spell from Bishnoi.

New Zealand finally found some momentum in the ninth over, with Chapman hitting a six and a four before Phillips added another maximum. The pair steadied the innings, but the partnership ended in the 12th over when Bishnoi dismissed Chapman, caught by Sanju Samson. Daryl Mitchell’s stay was short as Hardik Pandya picked up his second wicket, with Ishan Kishan taking the catch.

Mitchell Santner then joined Phillips, but the resistance ended when Bishnoi struck again, dismissing Phillips, who was caught by Kishan. Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry followed, but Bumrah produced a sensational 18th over, removing Jamieson and then seeing Henry run out in the same over.

Santner briefly lifted New Zealand with a six off Harshit Rana in the 19th over, but Bumrah returned to wrap up the innings, dismissing Santner with the first ball of the final over. Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi ensured New Zealand crossed the 150 mark, as they finished on 153/9 after 20 overs.

Captains take after toss

At the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner reflected on the previous game and confirmed a change to the XI.

“I thought we batted quite well. We’ll take the learnings from the last game and apply them today. We need to move on quickly. Neesham was going to play but he’s a bit crooked, so we’ve brought in Kyle Jamieson for Zak Foulkes,” Santner said.

Suryakumar Yadav

“We’ll look to bowl first, the wicket looks good and there will be a little bit of dew later on. So, I would like to chase tonight. (Message to the teammates) I think let’s let’s try and repeat the good habits, be the same way, enjoy, be fearless, take your own calls when you’re inside because two batters or bowlers who are bowling, I think they’re the best to judge inside. Wnjoy it and at the same time be a little humble as well. It’s always good, someone like Shivam, Hardik and some days Abhishek Sharma chipping in one or two overs. It’s always a big boost. Hardik has been doing that for India for a very long time. Shivam Dube is doing it recently. So it’s a big boost and we’re very happy with it. We’ve two changes – Arshdeep and Varun resting tonight. Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi come in.”
