The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday handed Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf a two-match ban for violating its Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 final against India.
In a statement, the ICC said that the disciplinary action against Rauf followed a hearing conducted by members of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
“Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two additional demerit points,” the ICC stated.
“This takes Rauf’s total to four demerit points within a 24-month period, resulting in two suspension points under the ICC’s disciplinary framework,” it added.
Following the ICC’s decision, Rauf will miss Pakistan’s first two ODIs against South Africa scheduled for November 4 and 6.
Rauf was previously found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s group-stage clash with India on September 14, when he was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and handed two demerit points.
The pacer had triggered controversy after making a ‘6-0 plane crash’ gesture, apparently referring to Pakistan’s exaggerated claim of downing six Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor.
Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has been given one demerit point for his ‘gun celebration’ during the India–Pakistan Super 4 clash. The ICC also issued an official warning to him.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also received one demerit point along with an official warning after admitting to a Level 1 offence during the Asia Cup final on September 28.
Earlier, in the September 14 encounter, India captain Suryakumar Yadav was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, fined 30 per cent of his match fee, and given two demerit points.
However, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was cleared of a charge under Article 2.6, related to obscene or insulting gestures, with no penalty imposed.
