Messi, who has begun the 2017-18 season in scintillating form, married childhood sweetheart Roccuzzo earlier in June this year. The star-studded ceremony saw the who’s who of football, with many of Messi’s Barcelona’s teammates making their presence felt.

The couple, who grew up in the Argentine town of Rosario, had two children-Thiago (born in 2012) and Mateo (born in 2015)-before tying the knot. They have known each other since they were five and started dating in 2008, when Messi was 20.

Meanwhile, in eight La Liga matches, the diminutive maestro has scored an incredible 11 goals and chipped in with two assists as well. The Catalans have built five-point lead at the top of the league table to emerge as favourites to lift the title.

They did, however, drop points for the first time this season on the weekend, when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid.

Messi has been tidy in Europe as well, scoring twice in as many games as the Catalans have won both their fixtures so far to top their UEFA Champions League group.

And for good measure, Messi fired a hat-trick to ensure Argentina qualified for the World Cup in a vital qualifier against Ecuador.

Along with arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi is the front-runner for the 2017 Ballon d’Or. The duo have shared the past nine Golden Balls between them and this year’s gong is likely to be awarded to either forward as well.

Barcelona host Greek side Olympiacos Piraeus on Wednesday night in the Champions League and Messi will hope the ‘good news’ proves to be a lucky charm.
