After marking its arrival on the Test cricket map by hosting the second Test between India and South Africa in November last year, the ACA Stadium has been awarded the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, scheduled from February 11 to 15, 2027.
The Guwahati venue will also host the second T20I between India and the West Indies on September 30 this year, making it one of five venues allotted two international matches during India’s busy 2026–27 home season.
The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played across Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi and Ahmedabad, forming the final leg of India’s busy 2026–27 home international season, during which the team will host four bilateral series, the BCCI announced on Thursday.
India will begin the season against the West Indies, playing three ODIs and five T20Is from September 27 to October 17. This will be followed by a white-ball series against Sri Lanka comprising three ODIs and three T20Is from December 13 to 27.
Zimbabwe will then tour India for three ODIs from January 3 to 9, before Australia arrive for the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series from January 21 to March 7. Zimbabwe’s tour will mark their first bilateral series in India since 2002.
International cricket set to return to M Chinnaswamy
The season will also see international cricket return to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the first time since the tragic stampede outside the stadium last June that resulted in 11 deaths. The venue is scheduled to host the fifth T20I against West Indies on October 17 and the second ODI against Sri Lanka on December 16.
Bengaluru is among five venues that will stage two international matches during the season. The others include Guwahati (second T20I vs West Indies and third Test vs Australia), Hyderabad (fourth T20I vs West Indies and second ODI vs Zimbabwe), Ranchi (second T20I vs West Indies and fourth Test vs Australia) and Ahmedabad (third ODI vs Sri Lanka and fifth Test vs Australia).
Having hosted its maiden Test in November 2025, Guwahati will now stage a Test match in successive home seasons, marking another milestone for the NorthEast city as an emerging international cricket venue.
One notable fixture in the calendar is the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Delhi on December 13. The scheduling has drawn attention in recent years due to severe winter air pollution in the national capital. During a 2017 India–Sri Lanka Test in Delhi, players were affected by breathing difficulties and nausea.
In the previous season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had swapped a scheduled India–West Indies Test in Kolkata with a Test against South Africa in Delhi to ensure the Delhi match was held before the typical post-Diwali pollution spike.
Among other major venues, Kolkata and Mumbai will host an ODI each against Zimbabwe, scheduled for January 3 and January 9 respectively, as part of the short three-match series.
