Alexander Zverev may be the best bet to dislodge Rafael Nadal from his throne at the French Open but the German sensation hasn’t quite mastered one crucial one element: Understanding the Yorkshire accent.

Yes, you read that right.

The notoriously hard to understand Yorkshire accent has stumped many over the years and Zverev on Wednesday was the latest to get added to the list.

An unidentified British reporter tried to ask him a few questions at the post his epic five-set win over Dusan Lajovic, but the second seed struggled to understand the accent and had an uproarious response to the query.

Understandably, the media room burst into laughter and here’s the video if you don’t believe us:

The 21-year-old Zverev is seen as the best of the ‘next-generation and while he has a number of Masters 1000 titles to his name, he’s still searching for his first Grand Slam victory.

And while Nadal is virtually unbeatable on the crimson surface of Roland Garros, the 6’6 Zverev is considered a serious contender.

He’ll have to do better than what he did against the unranked Lajovic though, for his round three opponent will be 26th seed Damir Dzumhur.

The Bosnian has a superior head-to-head record (1-0) against Zverev after edging the German in China last year in their only meeting till date.

Due to the loss of form of several top stars of late, Zverev has definitely had the tougher draw for he will have to contend with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitirov and Kei Nishikori, to name a few, before a potential summit clash with Nadal.

The indefatigable Spaniard is likely to be the fresher of the two should they meet in the final and fatigue could prove to be telling on the day and that’s why Zverev will seek to wrap up matches in a hurry.
