11th August marked the 11th anniversary of Abhinav Bindra’s historic Olympic gold medal win in shooting. The former shooter and gold medalist shooter took to Twitter to make a wish hoping that Indian athletes bag numerous medals in the world’s biggest sporting stage- the Olympics, which is all set to take place in Tokyo next year.

In 2008, on the same date, Abhinav Bindra had won India’s first and only gold in an individual discipline in Olympics. He won a gold medal on the back of a nail-biting win as he came back from an improbable situation to emerge as the winner in the10 m air rifle event held at the Beijing Olympic games.

“A year away from now I do wish that we would be busy celebrating several gold medals by our athletes. I wish them the best as they go and fight for gold medals but most importantly for their pride and self-respect,” the former shooter tweeted on Sunday.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bindra missed the bronze medal finishing fourth in the 10m air rifle event and then later that year officially declared that he would retire from the sport.
