After Indian captain Virat Kohli was ruled out of the County stint for Surrey Cricket Club due to neck injury, head coach Ravi Shastri talked about the need to reduce the workload on Indian cricketers.

Talking about Virat skipping the County stint, Shastri told Mumbai Mirror that, “(He had to skip the county stint) because he is not a top dog. He is not a machine but a human being.” Indian cricket team coach further said that even a rocket fuel would not have helped Virat.

“It is not a case of putting rocket fuel up his backside and getting him on the park. Even a top dog can’t be given rocket fuel up his backside,” Shastri added.

Ravi Shastri’s comment had come after, County club Surrey has expressed their disappointment on Virat’s absence on their official website. Surrey in a press release has said that Kohli will not be seen donning their jersey this season.

“It’s hugely disappointing that Virat won’t be joining Surrey for the month of June but we understand injuries happen and we have to respect the decision of the BCCI medical team to pull him from his stint with us,” Alec Stewart, Surrey Director of Cricket, said.

Ahead of India’s England tour, Virat was scheduled to play six games for Surrey in June. Now, Virat will not only miss his county stint but he will also undergo physical rehabilitation under the supervision of BCCI officials next month.

“The BCCI Medical Team is confident that Mr Kohli will regain full fitness ahead of India’s upcoming tours to Ireland and England,” the BCCI release said.
