Head coach Anil Kumble is set to attain a new role as the director of the Indian cricket board while India Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid is likely to slip into Kumble’s shoes.

According to the media reports, the step has been taken by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) Committee of administrators (CoA) after meeting with coach Kumble on Wednesday.

"We need to move ahead with the times and that is why these structural changes are looked at. If it happens, Indian cricket will benefit, as one person will handle all the teams and there will be better coordination between all concerned. The plan is already in place and there is a strong possibility that when new contracts are given out, these changes will be made," a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to a national daily.

The ongoing series against Australia will be Kumble’s last duty as coach and will take over the new role on April 14.

India reached World No. 1 ranking in Tests and fared well under Kumble’s reign as they did not lose a single Test in 2016.

Under Dravid’s coaching stint, India Under-19 team entered U-19 World Cup final in 2016.
