Juventus won their sixth consecutive Serie A title with a 4-0 win over struggling Crotone on Sunday, completing the second part of the ‘treble’, days after beating Lazio to clinch their third Coppa Italia title on the trot.

After second-placed Roma had demolished Chievo on Saturday night to trim their lead to a solitary point, the Bianconeri knew they had to beat Crotone if they wanted to avoid stretching the title-race to the final day.

And, Massimiliano Allegri understood the task ahead of him. He sent out a strong starting XI with Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain. Veteran goalkeeper Gianlugi Buffon was restored to the line-up after being benched for the cup final against Lazio but was a virtual spectator as the hosts dominated proceedings from the first minute itself.

Mandzukic got them off the mark in the 12th minute, arriving at the far-post to turn in Juan Cuadrado’s low cross, calming nerves at the Juventus Stadium and from then, the result was never in doubt.

Dybala, one of Juventus’ many shining lights this season, then turned on the style with a stunning free kick six minutes before half-time to give the hosts a commanding lead. The Argentine forward wheeled away with his trademark ‘Dybala Mask’ celebration, understandably ecstatic with his 10th league goal of the season.

Juventus took their foot off the gas in the second period, content with bossing the possession stats with their lowly opponents unable to test Buffon and co.

Allegri took off Cuadrado in the 70th minute, bringing on centre-back Andrea Barzagli as the Bianconeri looked to hold on to their lead, but the manager needn't have worried as wing-back Aleix Sandro would add a third seven minutes from time. The Brazilian’s thunderous header from a Dybala corner hit the crossbar and the officials adjudged the ball to have crossed the line before a defender hacked clear.

Juventus have one league game remaining on Saturday at Bologna before they turn their attention towards a massive Champions League final against Real Madrid on June 4. A remarkable season for the Turin-based club and regardless of what happens in Cardiff, Allegri’s side will go down as one of the great Series A winning sides.
