Real Madrid player Marco Asensio was stretchered off the ground after an apparent knee injury in the second pre-season encounter against Arsenal.

Now, the latest update is that Madrid’s doctors are afraid that the forward might have torn his Anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL). If this is true, it might imply Asensio missing out on a big part of the 2019-20 season. He may well be ruled out of the complete season.

“We’re a bit concerned. It’s his knee, he’s gone straight to the hospital for some tests so we’ll see… But it doesn’t look good. It’s the downside of today for us, we’ve lost a player and we’re pretty gutted. We’re gutted for Marco and hope it will be the least serious possible outcome,” said Zinedine Zidane after the game.

Although Real Madrid have not published any medical report, Asensio’s injury is apparently very serious. The fans, club and everyone associated with him would be hoping that he recovers quickly as they were expecting to witness Asensio starting for Real Madrid and occupying the right-winger position.

However, the Spanish attacker sustained this injury while playing against Arsenal.

Now if medical reports confirm that Asensio indeed tore his ACL, Real Madrid and Zidane will have to look for an apt replacement.

In the match against Arsenal, Real Madrid were trailing behind by two goals in the first half. However, in the second half, Gareth Bale scored the first goal and Asensio scored the equalising goal a few minutes later for Real Madrid.

However, his game was cut short by his left knee injury.
