Dhruv Jurel struck a superb unbeaten 141 as India A tightened their grip on the opening unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A, declaring their first innings at 452/6 before reducing the hosts to 113/2 at stumps on Day 2 in Galle.

Resuming from a strong overnight position, India A rode on Jurel’s composed century to post an imposing total before their bowlers made early inroads into the Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Jurel, who resumed unbeaten on 68, converted his overnight score into a commanding 141 not out off 184 deliveries, laced with 13 fours and a six. The wicketkeeper-batter anchored the innings after losing overnight partner Shaik Rasheed early in the day.

Rasheed added just 10 runs to his overnight score before being bowled by Chamika Gunasekara for a well-made 63. Jurel then stitched together a valuable 86-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Harsh Dubey, who contributed a brisk 30 off 51 balls.

Gunasekara eventually dismissed Dubey to finish as Sri Lanka A’s most successful bowler with figures of 3/84, but India A declared soon after with a commanding first-innings total of 452/6.

In reply, Sri Lanka A endured a difficult start as Anshul Kamboj removed Niroshan Dickwella in the fourth over before Yash Thakur clean-bowled Pawantha Weerasinghe to leave the hosts struggling at 38/2.

Nuwanidu Fernando then led the recovery with a determined unbeaten 65 off 103 deliveries, striking seven boundaries. He found solid support in Ashen Bandara, who remained unbeaten on 18 from 51 balls, as the pair added an unbroken 75-run stand for the third wicket to steady the innings.

Despite their resistance, Sri Lanka A still face an uphill task, trailing by 339 runs with eight wickets in hand heading into Day 3, while India A remain firmly in control of the opening unofficial Test.
