As the nation mourns the passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, the cricketing fraternity has also come together to pay tribute to one of India’s most iconic voices.

Indian cricket greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli joined millions in expressing grief over the demise of Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai on Sunday.

She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier. Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed the news outside the hospital, adding that her last rites will be held at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4 pm.

Tendulkar, who shared a close bond with Bhosle, penned a heartfelt tribute, describing her as “family” and reflecting on the timeless impact of her music.

“A deeply sad day for India, and for music lovers across the world. For us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words feel too small for the loss we feel. One moment the heart falls silent, and the next, it drifts through the countless melodies she gifted all of us,” he wrote on X.

“It feels as though time itself has paused. Yet through her eternal songs, she will remain timeless forever. Thank you, Tai, for filling our lives with warmth, grace, and unforgettable music. We will miss you beyond words, Asha Tai,” he added.

Kohli also paid his respects via Instagram, writing, “Rest in peace, Asha Bhosle Ji. Your voice touched millions and will live on forever in our hearts. Om Shanti.”

India head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a tribute as well, posting, “Saddened by the demise of legendary Asha Bhosle Ji. Her elegance and incomparable talent will always remain in our memories.”

One of the most influential playback singers in Indian music history, Bhosle began her career with the 1943 Marathi film Majha Bal and went on to record thousands of songs across genres and languages. Her iconic tracks — including Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani, and O Haseena Zulfonwale — remain timeless classics.

Over a career spanning decades, she collaborated with some of the biggest composers, including R.D. Burman, O.P. Nayyar, and A.R. Rahman, leaving behind a legacy that transcends generations. She was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, among numerous other accolades.
