Tennis sensation Sania Mirza and her Pakistani cricketer husband Shoaib Malik were blessed with a baby boy on Tuesday.

The excited father confirmed the good news on Twitter this morning and tweeted, “Excited to announce: It’s a boy, and my girl is doing great and keeping strong as usual #Alhumdulilah. Thank you for the wishes and Duas, we are humbled. #BabyMirzaMalik.”

Sania delivered the child early Tuesday morning in a Hyderabad hospital, and both the mother and the child are doing well, according to reports.

Filmmaker Farah Khan, who is one of Sania’s close friends, was among the first ones to wish the couple on Instagram.

She wrote, “Finally!! Best news in a long time!! Congratulations @mirzasaniar@realshoaibmalik @anammirzaaa@imranmirza58 n of course the nani n daadi God bless our lil angel”

Sania and Shoaib were married in a traditional Hyderabadi Muslim wedding ceremony on April 12, 2010.

Mirza had made the announcement about her pregnancy on social media in April, posting an illustration of different closets for a boy and a girl. She had captioned the photo “#BabyMirzaMalik”. In an interview later, the tennis star had said their child would be called “Mirza Malik”. “Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza-Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter,” Mirza had said.
