Rio 2016 Olympic Silver medalist P.V. Sindhu will be received at home in Hyderabad later on Monday morning by a decked up, open deck double-decker bus of Mumbai’s BEST, an official said here.
The BEST, which runs the public bus services for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, has dispatched post-haste one of its best — Nilambari Bus — which will receive Sindhu and her coach P. Gopichand at the airport.
"Telangana government has requested the bus for receiving them and carrying out a victory rally in Hyderabad today (Monday)," a government spokesperson said.
The BEST sent a Nilambari open-deck double-decker from Mumbai to Hyderabad on Sunday morning along with a team of drivers and maintenance staff.
After travelling around 1,600 kms, the bus reached Hyderabad late Sunday and readied to picking up Sindhu and Gopichand from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport a short while from now.
Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport Chairman Jagdish Patil said: "It was an honour to be part of the celebrations."
"Congratulatory wishes shall be given to Sindhu by the team on behalf of BEST and a poster to that effect shall be displayed on the bus," Patil said.
A grand welcome has been planned by the Telangana government for the "silvern" shuttler-coach duo around 9 am on Monday for the first women in India to win an Olympic Silver Medal.
